AWP maintains traffic control as city revitalizes historic theater district

AWP provided safe and efficient traffic control as the city of Cleveland underwent a major renovation project, renovating Playhouse Square. Supporting improvement projects within our communities is always rewarding for our team.

Challenge

With 11 stages and 10,000+ seats, Cleveland’s Playhouse Square District is the second-largest unified arts complex in the U.S. Located between the city’s busy Gateway District and Cleveland State University, the theater district underwent a major renovation with $16 million in signage and streetscape improvements. This required extensive traffic control planning, equipment and site safety considerations.

Solution

AWP provided efficient re-routing of downtown traffic and secure work zones for contractors to safely operate heavy machinery. We managed all aspects of temporary traffic routes, road closures, road signage and safety equipment.

  • Comprehensive traffic control plan
  • Daily road closures of Euclid Ave. to accommodate crane operations
  • 30+ temporary traffic control signs, type-III barricades and channelizing devices
  • 60+ ADA-compliant pedestrian barricades

Results

AWP successfully executed the traffic plan over three months with zero safety issues.
